About
I'm Daniel Smith. I build things, figure out how they work, and write down what I learn.
altmake is my place to share that work. My interests range from software and home automation to DIY projects, woodworking, automotive tweaks, and sourdough baking. The common thread is the approach: try it for real, think through the choices, and write up what actually worked so it's useful to someone else.
What you'll find here
I write about things I've tried: the approach I took, the problems I ran into, and where I landed. Sometimes that's a software tool or an integration. Sometimes it's a projection mapping setup, a checklist, or a bread-making process I've refined over time.
I want these notes to be useful if you're working on something similar. That means sharing the details behind a result, including the tradeoffs and the parts that didn't go as planned. They're a record of what I've learned so far, with room to improve as I learn more.
